SEOUL/BUSAN STREET PHOTOGRAPHY WORKSHOP

[19–27 September, 2026]
With Leica Ambassador Robin Schimko
Location: Seoul/Busan South Korea

DENSE, DYNAMIC, AND ENDLESSLY PHOTOGENIC - DISCOVER STREET PHOTOGRAPHY IN SEOUL AND BUSAN

Seoul is one of Asia’s most visually complex cities. Neon signs stack above crowded streets, people move quickly through subway stations and markets, and layers of modern architecture meet pockets of tradition. It is a place where density and rhythm constantly challenge a photographer’s eye.

This workshop moves between Seoul and Busan, two cities with very different rhythms but equally rich street life. Seoul offers density, speed, and endless visual layers, while Busan brings a softer pace with coastal light, markets, and neighborhoods climbing up the hills above the sea.

Over nine days, we will explore both environments with patience and intention, learning how to adapt our approach to different atmospheres and cultural contexts.

Through guided walks, focused shooting exercises, and in-depth image reviews, you will develop stronger instincts, learn to anticipate moments more clearly, and create street photographs that feel deliberate and emotionally grounded.

WHY SEOUL? WHY BUSAN?

Seoul is one of Asia’s most visually complex cities. Neon signs stack above crowded streets, people move quickly through subway stations and markets, and layers of modern architecture meet pockets of tradition. It is a place where density and rhythm constantly challenge a photographer’s eye.

Busan offers a different energy. With its fishing ports, hillside neighborhoods, street markets, and coastal atmosphere, the city feels more open and textured. Light reflecting off the sea, narrow residential alleys, and vibrant market culture create quieter but equally compelling photographic moments.

Moving between these two cities allows you to experience the full spectrum of Korean urban life. The contrast between them becomes an important part of the photographic process.

WHAT TO EXPECT

This workshop is not about simply traveling with a camera. It is about developing a deeper understanding of how to see and work within unfamiliar environments.

Each day combines guided shooting sessions with discussions, targeted assignments, and one-on-one feedback. We focus on intention, observation, and patience rather than chasing dramatic moments.

You will learn how to read complex scenes, work with changing light, and navigate cultural differences with sensitivity and awareness.

Each day includes guided shooting sessions, group discussions, 1-on-1 feedback, and targeted assignments that build your technical skills and visual storytelling.

HIGHLIGHTS

Throughout the workshop we will explore a variety of environments in both Seoul and Busan, including busy markets, dense commercial streets, residential neighborhoods, temples, and coastal areas.

You will photograph in different conditions, from early morning street life and midday city energy to evening scenes illuminated by neon and artificial light.

We will focus on composition, layering, light, color, and gesture, while also discussing practical aspects such as camera settings, lens choices, and efficient street workflows. Image reviews and editing discussions will help you understand your strengths and refine your approach.

Continuous personal feedback will guide your development and help you create stronger, more intentional images.

YOU’LL LEAVE WITH

  1. Sharper instincts and refined timing in street shooting

  2. A stronger visual language through light, layering, and gesture

  3. Tools for working confidently in fast‑paced environments

  4. One‑on‑one feedback and group critiques for accelerated growth

WHO IS THIS FOR?

This workshop is for photographers who want more than “lucky shots.” Whether you’ve been shooting for years or are just starting to take your practice seriously, if you’re ready to go deep, this is for you.

You don’t need to shoot with a Leica - all gear types are welcome.

We’ll work hard, shoot a lot, and have honest conversations about your strengths, blind spots, and potential.
