LONDON STREET PHOTOGRAPHY WORKSHOP
[August 29 - 31, 2026]
With Leica Ambassador Robin Schimko
Location: Hong Kong
TIMELESS, MULTILAYERED, AND UNPREDICTABLE - STREET PHOTOGRAPHY IN LONDON
A Weekend of Street Photography at Europe’s Largest Carnival
Every August, the streets of west London transform for the Notting Hill Carnival, one of the world’s largest street festivals and a powerful celebration of Caribbean culture.
This three-day workshop places you right in the middle of the energy. From high-intensity parade moments and towering sound systems to quieter, layered scenes unfolding in side streets and residential areas, the focus is on learning how to work with intention in a visually overwhelming environment.
On the day before the carnival begins, we will roam the streets of London in search of those subtle, fleeting moments that make street photography so rewarding and so much fun.
Through guided walks, focused shooting exercises, and in-depth image reviews, you will learn how to move confidently through crowds, anticipate moments before they unfold, and create street photographs that are both strong and emotionally grounded.
WHY LONDON? WHY NOTTING HILL CARNIVAL?
London is usually restrained and observant, full of subtle stories and layered daily life. During Notting Hill Carnival, the city shifts completely. Music fills the streets, colour dominates every corner, and the distance between performer and observer disappears.
Notting Hill Carnival is more than spectacle. It is history, culture, and community unfolding in public space. Over the course of the weekend, the energy evolves - from anticipation and buildup to full intensity and eventual release. This changing rhythm creates ideal conditions for photographers who want to go beyond surface-level images.
This workshop is about learning how to read that rhythm, work within chaos, and create photographs that reflect both the intensity and the quieter human moments in between.
WHAT TO EXPECT
This workshop is not about simply walking the streets with a camera. It is about intention, awareness, and developing a stronger photographic voice.
Each day combines guided shooting sessions with group discussions, one-on-one feedback, and focused assignments designed to strengthen both your technical skills and your visual storytelling. The emphasis is on quality rather than quantity, and on learning how to see clearly in complex urban environments.
HIGHLIGHTS
Over the course of the workshop, you will explore multiple London districts, moving between dense central areas and quieter residential streets. You will photograph in changing conditions, from soft morning light and daytime flow to evening street life, learning how rhythm and atmosphere affect the images you create.
Through targeted exercises, we will focus on light, layering, composition, color, and human gesture. You will learn how to navigate fast-moving street situations with calm and precision, how to stay agile in crowded spaces, and how to work confidently up close.
There will be practical discussions around gear choices, camera settings, zone focusing, and efficient street workflows, as well as guidance on approaching strangers, reading situations, and building confidence in unpredictable environments. In-depth image reviews and editing sessions are an essential part of the workshop, with continuous personal feedback to support steady artistic growth.
YOU’LL LEAVE WITH
You will leave with sharper instincts and more confident timing in your street photography, along with a clearer visual language shaped by light, layering, and human gesture. You will gain practical tools for working confidently in fast-paced urban environments, supported by one-on-one feedback and group critiques designed to accelerate your development.
WHO IS THIS FOR?
This workshop is for photographers who want more than “lucky shots.” Whether you’ve been shooting for years or are just starting to take your practice seriously, if you’re ready to go deep, this is for you.
You don’t need to shoot with a Leica - all gear types are welcome.
We’ll work hard, shoot a lot, and have honest conversations about your strengths, blind spots, and potential.
