HONG KONG STREET PHOTOGRAPHY WORKSHOP
[2 Days | Nov. 29-30th]
With Leica Ambassador Robin Schimko
Location: Hong Kong
INTENSE, DENSE, AND ENDLESSLY PHOTOGENIC — DISCOVER STREET PHOTOGRAPHY IN HONG KONG
Hong Kong is a dream for street photographers - and for two immersive days, we’ll live and breathe photography in one of the world’s most visually stimulating cities.
Think: neon lights cutting through humidity. Steaming dai pai dongs. Markets, high-rises, alleyways. Moments that vanish in a split second - if you’re not ready.
This is a deep-dive street photography experience built to challenge and inspire you, push your creativity, and leave you with a stronger eye, sharper instincts, and a deeper connection to your work.
WHY HONG KONG?
Few cities on Earth offer the layers Hong Kong does: ultra-modern meets raw tradition, hyper-density meets intimate human moments. One minute you’re photographing monks on Temple Street, the next, businessmen reflected in the glassy towers of Central.
The energy here is electric. Light moves fast. People move faster. As a photographer, you need to anticipate, adapt, and act - and that’s exactly what this workshop is about.
WHAT TO EXPECT
Over two days, you’ll explore the city through the lens - shooting in various districts, from quiet residential corners to chaotic city arteries. We’ll focus on developing your personal style, improving timing and composition, and building confidence in even the busiest environments.
This workshop is not just about walking around with a camera. It’s about intention, discipline, and artistic growth.
Each day includes guided shooting sessions, group discussions, 1-on-1 feedback, and targeted assignments that build your technical skills and visual storytelling.

WHO IS THIS FOR?
This workshop is for photographers who want more than “lucky shots.” Whether you’ve been shooting for years or are just starting to take your practice seriously, if you’re ready to go deep, this is for you.
You don’t need to shoot with a Leica - all gear types are welcome.
We’ll work hard, shoot a lot, and have honest conversations about your strengths, blind spots, and potential.
ABOUT YOUR MENTOR
I’m Robin Schimko, a photographer based in Heidelberg, Germany. I’ve been shooting street for over 15 years - mostly while on the road - and working with Leica since 2015. As a Leica Ambassador, I’ve led workshops, mentored photographers, and pursued long-term projects across Asia and Europe.
This workshop is a reflection of my own photographic journey - full of movement, culture, and moments of unexpected connection.
I’ll be joined by Darryl Carrey, a talented professional photographer and videographer from Auckland, New Zealand. Darryl not only brings technical skill and creative insight, but also a great sense of humor - the kind of energy every good street adventure needs.

You'll need a digital camera capable of manual settings for exposure and focus. I recommend bringing a single lens with a focal length between 24 and 35mm (full frame equivalent). Shooting film is also an option, but ensure you can develop and scan the film on the same day, ready by the following morning. If you have additional questions about required gear, please reach out.
