Bangkok One Week Workshop Songkran 2024 (April 10th-16th)

Be prepared for probably the craziest week of photography that you’ve ever experienced, an adventure that you’ll never forget.

If you share the same passion with me or even if you are new to this fabulous world of hunting precious moments in the streets, you have now the opportunity to join one of my workshops and learn directly from me.

Believe it or not but the first time I visited Bangkok back in 2013 I didn’t like it at all. However, when I returned a few years later I fell in love with the city. For street photography it is an amazing place. The people are lovely and the city has lots of character. One of my favorites spots in Bangkok is China Town. Especially at night with all the neon signs and tons of people it is a lot of fun to shoot there.

Now, in 2024 I am offering you a very special workshop during Songkran, which in a nutshell is the New Year for Buddhist calendar. It is also know as the water festival and to shoot that is a lot of fun.

In case you are worried about your camera getting water damaged. You could bring a under water housing or one of those fairly inexpensive water proof bags for camera that are available on Amazon. However, in my experience some basic protection is totally fine and I am going to show you how it’s done.

The festival will only be on three days of the workshops and that gives us plenty of time to explore different areas of Bangkok and we could also do a day trip to the ancient city of Ayutthaya which is totally up to you.

Workshop Overview:

In my workshops, I want to help you to take your skills to the next level. First, we will have a look at your portfolio to get an idea what level you are currently at and together we will determine which areas you can approve on. To address these sticking points I will give you specific assignments that you can work on during the workshop.

„Luck is what happens when preparation meets opportunity“

You might have heard about this famous quote from the Roman philosopher Seneca and it still is true to street photography. And my goal is that after attending the workshop you find luck everywhere you go. 😉

We will talk about gear and I will give you practical tips for settings you can use to get the best results possible and to always be ready. This also includes how to achieve spot on focus as quick as possible which is something a lot of street photographers struggle with.

Besides technical tips, I will teach you how to approach strangers in the streets and how to get close to people without being held back by your own „approach anxiety“.

Workshop Schedule:

  • Wednesday (12pm-8pm)

We will meet up at noon and get to know each other and we will go through the workshop’s schedule. Also, we’ll be reviewing your portfolio to determine what you need to focus on during the workshop. Late afternoon we head out for our first photography session.

  • Thursday (10am - 8pm)

We are meeting up at 10am to review the photos from the first day. After lunch we will go out to shoot.

However, we could also go to Ayutthaya, which is around 2 hours north of Bangkok and spend the day there to explore this ancient and very interesting place. It’s totally up to you.

  • Friday (10am-8pm)

We are meeting up at 10am to review the photos from the day before. After lunch we will go out to shoot.

Later that day we’ll be going to shoot in China Town after sunset which is one of the highlights in Bangkok. The streets are filled with people and you are going to have a wonderful time capturing moments left, right and center.

  • Saturday (10am-8pm)

We are meeting up at 10am to review the photos from the day before. After lunch we will go out to shoot. It will be the first day of Songkran and the action starts around 2pm. The best place to experience that would be Silom.

We will continue shooting as long as you want and can handle all the water. However, since it will be hot during April, the water is a great opportunity to cool off.

  • Sunday (10am-8pm)

We are meeting up at 10am to review the photos from the day before. After lunch we will go out to shoot.

It’s the second day of Songkran and we will explore a different area of the city and we will be shooting as long as you want but from my experience it would be good to have a break at some point to recover from all the craziness and continue shooting afterwards.
